BioSolar Completes Prototype of Low Cost Bioplastic Backsheet for Solar Cells
Santa Clarita, CA – September 10, 2007 – BioSolar, Inc. (OTCBB: BSRC), developer of a breakthrough technology to produce bioplastic materials from renewable plant sources that will reduce the cost of solar cells, announced that it has successfully completed a prototype of its low-cost bioplastic backsheet. The BioSolar technology team, lead by chief technology officer, Dr. Stanley B. Levy, has undertaken an intensive research and development effort to produce a bioplastic film to replace current solar module backsheets.  A backsheet is the bottom layer of a solar cell or solar module that supports the cell array and its various layers.  It needs to be durable and meet the stringent processing and installation requirements of solar cell applications.  In the past, conventional bio-based plastics have not been successfully used in solar cell applications, primarily due to their low melting temperature and fragile molecular structure.  Dr. Levy, commented, “Through a series of experiments and trial runs, we developed an innovative manufacturing process and proprietary blending of additives that produced a bioplastic film that we believe will deliver a  significant cost reduction over petroleum based film.  We are very excited about this progress.  This prototype will soon be in the hands of our strategic partners for evaluation and we expect to file a patent application for our innovative approach.”

Dr. David Lee, the Company’s CEO, added “Our vision is to replace all petroleum plastics in solar cell applications with our bioplastics.  With solar cell demand expected to exceed supply for the next 5 to 10 years, we believe there is tremendous opportunity for growth.  Our current strategy is to develop a bioplastic backsheet product to quickly gain a dominant share in this hyper growth market.  We believe BioSolar is in a very unique position within the supply chain to provide the entire solar industry, including next generation thin-film manufacturers, with meaningful cost reductions through the use of our breakthrough bioplastic materials.”
