Thousands Of Businesses Exempted From S.F. Bag Ban

Even with the ban on plastic grocery bags, they will not disappear off San Francisco streets.

The law only applies to the big grocery and pharmacy chains. That leaves about 95,000 other stores and restaurants in San Francisco that will still use the non-compostable bags.

And by CBS 5's own rough, conservative estimate, if each one of those stores has just 25 customers a day, that's about 2.5 million plastic bags a day that will still be in use in environmentally conscious San Francisco.
