Attractive, environment-friendly packaging for small tea bag cartons Treofan Group, one of the world's leading producers and distributors of PLA and polypropylene films, has launched a new application for their innovative Biophan film range. In France the biologically degradable film produced from sustainable raw materials is now being used as a packaging for tea bag cartons made of paper. The French tea producer Le Dauphin recently introduced a packaging machine purchased from Marden Edwards, a Dorset-based British company that is one of the world's leading packaging machine manufacturers. The packaging firm is Lunapack from Gasny in the South of France. Biophan's excellent mix of properties Biophan means it is ideally suited for the new application, especially as the film's outstanding transparency and surface gloss make the product particularly attractive. In addition, Biophan possesses good twist properties and can therefore be used for cartons of different sizes. Biophan's good sealing strength at low sealing temperatures allows the tea cartons to be wrapped in different ways to suit a customer's needs. Biophan complies with the relevant EU and US food contact regulations and can thus be safely used to wrap tea and coffee. After use, the biodegradable packaging can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way along with the paper. In an industrial composting plant Biophan decomposes completely into carbon dioxide and water within 45 days. The French tea producer Le Dauphin runs a small-scale, artisan-style operation which has been using locally grown herbs to produce a range of boxed tea bags since the 1980s. Since the company pursues a responsible environmental policy, it was determined to look at ways of making the packaging sustainable without impairing its appearance. In Biophan they found a solution which is efficient, environmentally friendly and attractive - ideal for a high-quality product such as tea. |
