Biograde bags Olympics deal |
|
An Australian company has secured a pivotal deal that will turn
China's plastic bags green just in time for the Olympics next month.
Melbourne-based manufacturer Biograde will supply 5.5 million
biodegradable bags - made from starch-based plastics - to the Beijing
Olympic Organising Committee (BOCOG).
Alan Morrell, Austrade's senior trade commissioner in Guangzhou,
China, said Biograde had developed a local cost base and chosen a
strong local partner in Nanjing to ensure business sustainability.
"The environmental issues around plastic bags are being taken very seriously in China,'' Mr Morrell said.
