Central Market looking into bio-degradable bags, greater use of recycled material

Central Market, as part of the company's internal efforts to become more environmentally friendly, is "looking into" using biodegradable shopping bags in its stores.

"We realize that it's a bigger picture than just getting rid of plastic," said Christine Connelly, Central Market's communications manager at the company's Dallas division office, in an interview. "Central Market is looking into locating a supplier that makes bags out of biodegradable material."

Connelly said the company, part of the H-E-B chain of grocery stores based in San Antonio, has been offering reusable bags to customers since the end of 2006.
