Bioplastic bottles exempt from compulsory deposit
With the Fifth Amendment to the German Packaging Directive coming into force, the use of renewable resources and innovative technology in bioplastics are supported, says the industry association European Bioplastics. The amendment was passed on 4 April 2008. The regulation for bioplastic bottles will come into effect on 1 January 2009.These bottles "produced from at least 75 percent renewable…

New family of thermoplastic starch blend bioplastics introduced
Canadian company Cerestech, Inc. has announced the commercial introduction of several branded Thermoplastic Starch Blends, called Cereloy. According to the company the new bioplastics deliver cost-effective, high property retention film and injection molded products with a substantially reduced Carbon Footprint relative to resins such as polyethylene, polypropylene, biodegradable polyester or polylactic acid (PLA).
