Bioplastics among top priorities for EuPC in 2008
Sustainability themes rank high amongst the top priorities for Europe’s Brussels-based plastics converters’ body, EuPC, in 2008. EuPC intends to promote an understanding of bioplastics in terms of their properties, applications and life cycles. ‘The Plastics converting industry supports innovation that offers society and the plastics value chain a wide range of new opportunities’ said Alexandre Dangis, Managing Director of EuPC. ‘Bioplastics are a promising alternative for the plastics industry... New method for modifying products containing wood fibres VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a method that opens up opportunities for new product properties in the biocomposite, paper and packaging industries with lignin-containing wood fibres and other natural fibres as well as fibre products. The method offers an innovative, environmentally friendly approach to customize or even to introduce completely new properties – such as moisture repellency or electric conductivity – to fibre-containing products.
